California Marijuana Farmers Concerned Crops Could Be Engulfed By Wildfire
(FreshAsFrankie) Marijuana users could be in for a rude awakening as the wildfires in California consume some of the prime farming areas of marijuana cultivation.

According to a USA Today story, marijuana farmers and dispensary owners are holding their collective breaths as the wildfire in Northern California burns through areas where some of the state’s major crops are located. This could also spell out an exorbitant rise in prices across the nation as California is a chief supplier of marijuana and also holds a major place in the cannabis market. The legal cannabis market in California is estimated to be worth around $2.7B while the black market is worth roughly $13.5B.

The fires that are sweeping across the Napa, Sonoma, and Mendocino counties are home to some of the most sought-after cannabis strains in the country. A single plant could be worth up to $5K but cannabis farmers are unable to secure crop insurance due to the plant’s schedule-one drug status and federal illegality. Although it is tough to assess the actual damage the Nor-Cal wildfires could have on the cannabis market, consumers will be affected by it one way or another.
