Eminem Wins Copyright Case Against A New Zealand Political Party
(FreshAsFrankie) Eminem has won a copyright infringement case against The National Party of New Zealand.

TNP was accused of using a song similar to Lose Yourself 186 times in a television commercial to help win a 2014 national election.

Reuters reports that a New Zealand court ruled that the song titled Eminem Esque “substantially copied” the Detroit rapper’s 2002 hit record, which appeared on the 8 Mile movie soundtrack.

“This decision is a warning to sound-alike music producers and their clients everywhere,” said Adam Simpson, director of Simpsons Solicitors, who acted for Eminem’s music company, Eight Mile Style.

The National Party has been ordered to pay Eight Mile Style $413,000 with interest from June 28, 2014.
