Lil’ Wayne and Birdman had the most unexpected and acrimonious break-up in modern-day hip-hop. Their split was reminiscent of JAY-Z and Dame Dash‘s highly publicized separation. The father and son rap duo sat comfortably at the top of the rap game with Cash Money and Young Money steadily pumping radio stations full of hit records for years. That was, until Birdman allegedly held back the release of Tha Carter V, and refused to pay Wayne money owed. Unfavorable business practices by Birdman led Weezy to leave his long-time associate in the dust.
In a recent interview with RapUp TV, Birdman assures Lil Wayne fans that Tha Carter Vwill be dropping this year. “We’ll get that this year,” Birdman states in regards to the project. When the reporter asks Birdman for a more specific release date, he answers “That’s on Tunechi. Whatever he wanna do, but I’m guaranteeing you’ll get it this year.”
When questioned about how the album sounds, Birdman stated, “I heard a few, but you know, I think he’s one of the best. He is the best ever to me.”
“A lot of success comes from under his umbrella,” continues Birdman. “I think it’s gonna be the biggest album of 2018.”
