Authorities in Jackson, Mississippi, have identified the victim of a fatal shooting that went down in the city over the weekend as local rapper Lil Lonnie (Lonnie Montrel Taylor).
Jackson police discovered Lonnie’s lifeless body in the driver’s seat of a vehicle that had crashed into the front of a house at around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 29. The back of the car had been riddled with bullets, with shots having also penetrated and hit the 22-year-old multiple times. He is said to have been targeted by a gunman (or gunmen) who were chasing him down Montebello Drive as the attack unfolded.
Police confirm that there was a woman in the car with him when they arrived on the scene, although they have not released her identity. She reportedly didn’t suffer any serious injuries. Lonnie, on the other hand, was pronounced dead at the scene.
To friends and family members, Lonnie is remembered as an ambitious youngster who was in full pursuit of his artistic endeavors while attending classes at Jackson State University. To fans, he was a high school producer who budded into the rapper responsible for the top downloaded indie mixtape on LiveMixapes in 2015. Many of those same fans stuck around for the releases of his TKWGO and TKWGO 2 projects in the years to follow.
An investigation is underway into the possible suspects and motive behind the attack.
