Herman Cain Defends Ben Carson in Open Letter: “House Negroes Stand Up!”

Herman Cain Defends Ben Carson in Open Letter: "House Negroes Stand Up!"
(FreshAsFrankie) From one Black Republican Presidential candidate to another, 2012 GOP primary contender Herman Cain called on the swath of American‘s who’ve been referred to as “house negros” to own the title and block out their haters, in an open letter he wrote in defense of 2016 GOP primary candidate Ben Carson, this week.

Carson was recently blasted by his hometown Michigan Chronicle, which called him the “shame of Detroit” and nominated him for the running of the rhetorical “House Negro of the Year Award,” for bucking the current movement to remove Confederate statues from public grounds across the U.S. In Cain’s letter, posted to his personal website, the businessman and Tea Party activist confides in Carson that he too has had the house negro characterization attached to him for what he says is his unwillingness “to embrace the backward thinking of today’s black identity politics.”

Cain went on in the letter to proudly claim the title if it connotes that he is successful. He also imparts his personal feelings on the Confederate statues discourse, aligning his position with Carsons and referring to calls to remove the Civil War relics as a “waste of time and distraction.”

In its entirety the letter reads as follows:

They say it to me too, Dr. Ben Carson, because just like you, I refuse to embrace the backward thinking of today’s black identity politics.

Since the Michigan Chronicle, a historically black Detroit-based newspaper, thinks Dr. Ben Carson is a “house Negro”, then I must be one also. Because that’s one of the names you get called by other black people when you are a success at something, and you do not buy into “black group think”, or act and say what they want you to say.

Maybe the Michigan Chronicle has not noticed that there are a lot of successful black people in prominent positions in America, because some of us have chosen to focus on performance and productive opportunities, rather than on the past. This is especially true of the current waste of time and distractions about statues, and who owned slaves 200 years ago.

Gentle Dr. Ben Carson is too nice to respond to that garbage article and name-calling by the Michigan Chronicle, but I’m not!

Let’s start with the fact that he prayed hard about even accepting the HUD job. Personally, I was glad he accepted it, because he will bring “outside the box” ideas and thinking to HUD. Many of the old ways of doing things have left many of our urban areas unchanged for 50 years, and too many of our young people have been trapped in cycles of poverty, crime and weak educations.

Secondly, Dr. Carson didn’t become a world-renowned brain surgeon by being a “house Negro”. He achieved this distinction because of his intellect and the results he produced in his profession.

Dr. Carson had plenty of other better paying and less stressful opportunities to choose from before he accepted the HUD position, but he chose to serve his country and a president who is truly trying to create a better America.

The Michigan Chronicle thanks Dr. Carson for his sacrifice and dedication by calling him a nasty insulting name. It’s the usual attempt to try to discredit his patriotism and to discourage him. Knowing Dr. Carson, that old tactic ain’t going to work.

The good news is that millions of black people are not drinking the name-calling brand of Kool-Aid. We are thinking for ourselves, telling people the truth, serving our country and pursuing the greatness of America and the richness of our futures.

Being called a “house Negro” is just one of the insulting names I have been called as an ABC (American Black Conservative), simply because I do not subscribe to the black liberal backward-looking narrative of black identity politics. Maybe that’s why I have had multiple successful careers over the last 50 years, and name-calling has not stopped or slowed me down yet!

If being called a “house Negro” is what some of us must endure for succeeding in this nation and thinking for ourselves, then let all of the “house Negroes” stand up and be counted.

Wow! There are too many to count, but there’s Dr. Ben Carson standing tall among millions, and doing something great again.

Thank you, Dr. Ben Carson, for being an achiever and a patriot.

ACLU Mobilizing to Remove Confederate Monuments

(FreshAsFrankie) Charlottesville was a watershed moment for race relations in the United States of America. Since the chain of tragic events that took place on August 12, there has been a 214% increase in the removal of Confederate monuments around the nation. But the 29 that have been uprooted and the 35 currently planned for removal mark the tip of the iceberg, considering there remain over 700 Confederate monuments on public land. In this decisive moment in history, the American Civil Liberties Union has pledged to put their resources and will into cutting down on that number substantially.

ACLU Mobilizing to Remove Confederate Monuments

“When we do not deal with the ugly truth about our history, we have no chance of going forward in any kind of a productive way,” ACLU Director Jeffrey Robinson said during a live broadcast on Thursday night, August 24. “Getting rid of the Confederate monuments will … make us deal with the truth.”\

ACLU has been taking action on the ground to bring their plan to fruition by dispensing their 200,000 People Power activists to press forward with petition drives and digital campaigns to garner the public’s support. But ACLU isn’t the only organization doing the work to confront the issue, and in fact, some have criticized the organization for making moves only after it became a hot button issue. Prior to Charlottesville ACLU had, perhaps regrettably, defended the fundamental right to free speech by white supremacists. They face dissension for taking such a direction in spite of their long history of advocacy for progressive causes. Over the period in which they disengaged from the fight, Color of Change and Change.org picked up the slack, garnering more than half a million signatures for the removal of Confederate monuments.

For a time ACLU’s position triggered a debate among the organizations, with the Color of Change managing director Arisha Hatch responding to ACLU’s, proclaimed support of “free speech” by stating that she sees the perspective coming from fringe organizations on the far right as “hate speech” and not “free speech.” Color of Change has since agreed to disagree on the topic and express that they are glad ACLU has amended its position post-Charlottesville. “Obviously, we have a different theory of change than the ACLU,” Hatch said. ”But their support sends a message that they’re in support of black civil rights leaders who are making these calls. They’ve been an incredibly important partner.

Bobby V and Transgender Accuser to Face Off in Court

Bobby V and Transgender Accuser to Face Off in Court
(FreshAsFrankie) August has proven to be a rough month for R&B singer Bobby Valentino. A few weeks back, Mr. “Slow Down” himself was caught on camera with a transgender escort who accused him of leaving without paying for her services. The woman, Reima Houston, claims she met Valentino at a concert, after which he agreed to help her with her own career. Once inside her apartment, she alleges that Valentino made sexual advances towards her, then she began recording.

Bobby V claims he’s being extorted and had no idea that Houston was an escort. His rep had this to say: “misrepresentation and Deception were maliciously used to target Valentino; during the encounter, Valentino was victimized and threatens by acts of extortion which continued after his departure was captured on video.” Look for this to get uglier by the day.

Former Director of National Intelligence Says Trump is Mentally Unfit for Office

Former Director of National Intelligence Says Trump is Mentally Unfit for Office
(FreshAsFrankie) Donald Trump’s Phoenix campaign-style rally recently made waves, as he used his platform to address the media in a less-than-positive manner.
Along with that, Trump went on to say that “I strongly condemn neo-Nazis, white Supremacists and the KKK” in reference to the Charlottesville incidents. Trump caught much heat for his response to the rally that turned deadly, saying that “both sides” (meaning white supremacists and counter-protesters) were responsible for the issues. Essentially, Trump re-read his statements about Charlottesville but took out the “on many sides” bit. His rally found peace protesters outside of the venue he was at, but that eventually turned into police showing up with riot gear to disperse the crowd.

Since then, former director of National Intelligence James Clapper has delivered some choice words for Trump and his ability to run the country following his rally. While on CNN, Clapper said, “I really question his ability to be — his fitness to be — in this office, and I also am beginning to wonder about his motivation for it.” Trump addressed the United States’ strategy in Afghanistan during his rally, and Clapper was not impressed, saying “He should have quit while he was ahead after last night. Again, I think the real Trump came through.” If it wasn’t clear that Clapper does not support the president in any way, the question he posed to CNN’s Don Lemon sealed the deal. Clapper asked, “How much longer does the country have to, to borrow a phrase, endure this nightmare?”

Cavaliers send Kyrie Irving to Celtics in deal including Isaiah Thomas, Nets 2018 pick

Cavaliers send Kyrie Irving to Celtics in deal including Isaiah Thomas, Nets 2018 pick

(FreshAsFrankie) The Boston Celtics have acquired All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving from the Cleveland Cavaliers for point guard Isaiah Thomas, forward Jae Crowder, center Ante Zizic and Brooklyn’s 2018 unprotected first-round pick, the team announced Tuesday night.

Irving, 25, requested a trade during a July meeting with Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert. At the time, Irving said he wanted to play in a situation where he can be more of a focal point and that he no longer wanted to play alongside LeBron James, sources said.

“This has obviously been a roller coaster of a day for us, trading away Isaiah and Jae and Ante, especially Isaiah and Jae who have been such big part of our team and our success and our Celtic culture as leaders of our team. Very, very difficult day,” said Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge. “At the same time, a very exciting time [to add] one of the best offensive players in the league.”

Ainge said that it was a very tough phone call to inform Thomas, who had emerged as the face of the franchise since arriving at the trade deadline in February 2015.

Ainge also said the Celtics did their homework on Irving after his falling out with James in Cleveland and said the player was “excited” to be joining the Celtics. He also acknowledged that Irving’s price tag was high.

“It is a high price tag,” he said. “But acquiring a 25-year-old perennial All-Star, a player that fits a timeline for us, and is a fantastic offensive player, one of the best offensive players in the league, you have to pay a heavy price.”

Pressed on the difficulty of giving up the unprotected Brooklyn pick, Ainge noted, “We valued it from the time we got it and it’s still very valuable. Obviously, we value Kyrie more. It’s that simple.”

Irving has three years and $60 million left on his contract, but he can opt out of the final year before the 2019-20 season.

33 Wounded, 6 Dead In Under 13 Hours In Chicago Over The Weekend

(FreshAsFrankie) According to the Chicago Tribune, 33 people have been wounded, with six of them dying over the weekend in the Windy City. Police noted that the shootings happened in 13 hours, starting on Saturday and going into Sunday morning.

In one instance the Tribune pointed out, one man was killed while six others were wounded from gunfire that broke out around 2:30 A.M. on Sunday. All of the people hurt were standing in the parking lot of a banquet hall that serves as a nightclub when an unidentified man in a black SUV fired off shots at the group of people. The man drove off right after his attack. A 40-year-old man on the scene was hit by the SUV of the shooter, resulting in him having to be taken to the hospital for a broken ankle.

The violence in Chicago keeps drawing attention nationwide, with Donald Trump chiming in and offering “solutions” the city’s homicide rate. In 2016, Chicago had 760 homicides, which is more than L.A. and New York combined according to NY Daily News.

Cardi B Calls Gangs to Action If White Nationalists Show Up in NYC

(FreshAsFrankie) Cardi B was overcome with the spirit of the protest movement to confront white supremacy head on, on Saturday, August 19. The “Bodak Yellow” rapper apparently got word that a group of white nationalists was coming to rally in New York City, and she put an immediate call to action out for the hood to come out and give them a Bronx style welcome.

“White nationalist coming to NY tomorrow. I needs every Brim set, Stones, Blazers, Trey to pop out !!!!! S**t you crip motherf**kers too. UNITED WE MUST STAND !!!,” a message that Cardi shared on Instagram read. In the caption of the post she was more specific about the logistics of the said gathering, and how to best come prepared. “I think n****s going to be in Suffolk County …N****s MUST TAKE THE METRO NORTH AND MAKE IT THERE SOME WAY OR ANOTHER!!!… PUT YA TIMBS ON !”

It was difficult to find any information on a Sunday rally of any sort in Suffolk County. There indeed were a couple of demonstrations in New York City, but they weren’t organized by right-wing or conservative organizations of any sort, except for one that was supposed to bring alt-right supporters together outside of Google headquarters to defend an employee who was fired for sending out an anti-diversity memo. That gathering was scheduled for Saturday, however, and the organizers actually wound up canceling over safety concerns.

Cardi may have been talking about Suffolk, VA, where a protest dubbed “Justice for Dre Peace Rally” was planned in support of 20-year-old Deandre Harris, who’s photo of blood pouring from his head after being attacked by neo-Nazis at the “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville last weekend has spread throughout social media. Unfortunately, that rally too was canceled due to fear that tensions might boil over.

But Cardi may want to keep her collective of NYC’s hardest counter-protesters good and ready for any future Suffolk County rallies, because Long Island certainly does has its share of white supremacist hate groups. In fact, it has been discovered that Christopher Cantwell, the 36-year-old white nationalist rabble-rouser who Vice centered its documentary Charlottesville: Race and Terror around, is actually a former Suffolk County resident who lived on Skylark Lane in Stony Brook.
