LiAngelo and LaMelo Have Been Turned Down by European Teams

LiAngelo and LaMelo Have Been Turned Down by European Teams
(FreshAsFrankie) Things went smoothly for Lonzo Ball, playing at Chino Hills High School, then one year at UCLA, and ultimately being drafted in the lottery by the Los Angeles Lakers, just like his dad LaVar Ball planned. Things haven’t gone quite so well for Lonzo’s younger brothers, LiAngelo and LaMelo. Thanks in part to their boisterous dad, the Ball brothers have been thrust into the spotlight with all eyes on their every move and some have been very questionable.

Earlier this year, LaVar pulled LaMelo out of Chino Hills High School after disagreements with their new basketball coach, Dennis Latimore. LaVar’s boys were the big draws for the school and he felt it entitled him to a say in the basketball program. Latimore said LaMelo’s days of taking 50 shots a game were over and LaVar wasn’t with it. Though the move was criticized, it wasn’t too bad since LaMelo is just a junior, still eligible to play AAU ball and has a standing offer at UCLA. LaVar, however, then took things a step further.

LiAngelo was indefinitely suspended from the UCLA basketball team after he and two teammates were arresting for stealing items from a Louis Vuitton store in China during a team trip. LaVar responded by pulling the freshman baller from the school. That move was met with much more scrutiny. LiAngelo needs a lot of work and he has no chance of being drafted in June, according to ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski.

Now both boys are without teams and very much in need of development and actual playing exposure. Some basketball insiders have floated the idea of LiAngelo and LaMelo potentially playing overseas, and though they have enough name recognition to draw some interest, the move isn’t as easy as perceived.

Most teams overseas have already begun their seasons, so adding the Ball brothers isn’t exactly feasible. Also, some teams will likely be wary about signing them knowing that LaVar and the issues he brings is apart of the deal.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the Lithuanian team, Lietkabelis Panevezys was interested in signing both Ball brothers, but the team’s head coach Arturs Stalberg shut that down, noting that the team has openings in security since they’re experienced in that field.

Though there are some substantial issues, LaVar might have a trick up his sleeve. The polarizing figure has managed to turn his boys into well-known figures and turn a hefty profit. Their names alone will likely draw interest from someone at some point.

Al Sharpton Set to Visit Meek Mill in Prison

Al Sharpton Set to Visit Meek Mill in Prison
(FreshAsFrankie) Meek Mill should be expecting a visit from Rev. Al Sharpton on Monday, November 28, according to the New York Daily News. “I think this is about an injustice that is representative of many young men of color that face an abuse of a probation or parole system,” Sharpton stated during a gathering at the headquarters of his National Action Network (NAN) in Harlem. Sharpton is meeting with Meek as part of a larger effort to see the Philly rapper’s case receive a new hearing.

Sharpton said further:

I think what’s happening with Meek Mill is something that the National Action Network has always fought, and I hope that me going there is going to raise the pressure on the issue and help begin a drive-by us in supporting others and demanding a new hearing for him and a new judge.

Al Sharpton shares the sentiment with many others that believe Meek Mill represents a larger systemic issue and according to Rev. Sharpton, “he can be an example of how we correct that.”

California NAACP Wants to Get Rid of the National Anthem

California NAACP Wants to Get Rid of the National Anthem
(FreshAsFrankie) When former NFL player Colin Kaepernick began kneeling during the national anthem, it sparked much support as well as backlash.

Today, NFL players and other professional athletes have joined in on protesting during the national anthem. Even owners and coaches have shown support. Because of the protests, other organizations like the California branch of the NAACP have gone on to question the national anthem — asking for the anthem’s usage to end.

California branch President Alice Huffman spoke to CBS Sacramento, saying “It’s racist. It doesn’t represent our community. It’s anti-black. This song is wrong. It shouldn’t have been there. We didn’t have it ’til 1931, so it won’t kill us if it goes away.”

Huffman spoke on Kaepernick’s protest message, and how it got lost when different parties started to debate about the flag. “This not about the flag. We love the flag. This about a song that should never have been the national anthem,” she said. Huffman went on to say “This country is a country that has shared values, and the more we respect each other, the better off we’ll be as a country.”

Flavor Flav Gets New Variety Show Called "Flavor Flav's Vegas"
(FreshAsFrankie) Although Flavor Flav is part of one of the most iconic and impactful groups of all-time, the Public Enemy hypeman may be just as popular for his stint as a reality TV star. Flav jumped on the celebrity reality TV wave before it became the entertainment cash-cow it has become today. Colin Kaepernick Invited to Next Meeting with NFL Owners

Colin Kaepernick Invited to Next Meeting with NFL Owners
(FreshAsFrankie) Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is expected to receive an invite to the next meeting between NFL players and team owners, according to league sources.

“We look forward to him joining the conversation,” NFL vice president of communications Joe Lockhart said in a conference call on Wednesday. According to Lockhart, Kaepernick’s invitation would likely come from the players.

“My understanding is Colin Kaepernick has been invited to these last two meetings. He has been in the discussion with the players’ coalition. Lockhart said. “I expect that he will be invited to this meeting. We look forward to him joining the conversation with the (NFL Players Association), but I don’t have any confirmation that he’s planning to attend.”

Last week, the NFL and NFLPA held a meeting to discuss the ongoing protests during the national anthem. According to Kap’s former teammate Eric Reid, the quarterback did not attend because he was not officially invited by the league.

Kaepernick, who filed a collusion claim against the NFL, remains unemployed. Recently, Kap’s former NFC West rival, Richard Sherman said he believes the league is making an example out of the quarterback. “I think they had a point to make, and they made it.’’

NAACP Issues Travel Advisory to Black People Traveling with American Airlines

NAACP Issues Travel Advisory to Black People Traveling with American Airlines
(FreshAsFrankie) The NAACP is issuing a travel advisory for travelers flying American Airlines over a series of reported incidents that indicate “troublesome conduct” from many of the airline’s employees. In a press release Tuesday, the NAACP said the incidents “suggest a corporate culture of racial insensitivity and possible racial bias on the part of American Airlines.”

The reported incidents in the NAACP press release range from an African American passenger having their seating assignment changed without their knowledge to an African American mother and her infant child being removed from a New York-to-Atlanta flight after she “asked that her stroller be retrieved from checked baggage before she would disembark.”According to the NAACP, the advisory was issued Tuesday and will last indefinitely.

American Airlines spokeswoman Stephanie Gilson said in a response:

“We are disappointed to hear about this travel advisory as our team members – a diverse community of gate agents, pilots, and flight attendants – are proud to serve customers of all backgrounds. With that said, we understand there is more to do,” she said. “We will invite representatives of the NAACP to meet with our team at our headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas.”

We will keep you updated on any developments on the travel advisory.

North Korea Disregards Trumps Threat and Fires 3 More Missiles

North Korea Disregards Trumps Threat and Fires 3 More Missiles
(FreshAsFrankie) North Korea disregarded tough talk from President Trump early Saturday, August 26, when the Kim Jong-Un government fired a series of missiles only one week after receiving praise from U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson for showing “restraint” in the face of a grave warning from Washington.

Earlier this month North Korea threatened to launch a missile that it projected would come within striking distance of Guam’s shore. The proposal caused a flare up in the already tense atmosphere brought upon the two nations following years of posturing and a recent U.N. resolution to impose sanctions on the Communist government. Kim Jong had even given a date for his launch, but he never followed through, and thus Saturday’s launch marked a predictable return to the provocations regularly staged by Pyongyang.

It is reported that of the three missiles launched from the Gangwon province, one blew up immediately and the other two traveled approximately 250km in the north-eastern direction.
