(FreshAsFrankie) After collaborating on a few pairs of Reebok Classics, Kendrick Lamar announced a switch from the brand to his partnership with Nike in the late summer of this year. In that time between wearing Vans and Nike’s Cortez silhouette, two shoes that are staples in fashion culture of LA, K. Dot has finally given fans a first look at his collaboration with the Nike. Of course, it would be a blood-red Cortez the rapper donned.
“DON’T TRIP. CORTEZ KENNY,” the rapper captioned the photo. Kendrick shared the preview of the show from backstage at LA’sStaples Center where he was in attendance for Kobe Bryant‘s jersey retirement ceremony. Kobe and Kendrick representing the greatness of the west coast recently did an interview together at Complex Con where they discuss their road to greatness.
Kendrick’s Nike Cortez houses a red, white, and black colorway with an accent ribbon on the top of the laces that reads “DON’T TRIP.” The Grammy-nominated is even throwing double entendres on his shoes. While representing the Black plight in his music, Kenny has also been sharing his appreciation for Chinese Culture and honors his alter ego, “Kung Fu Kenny”, the side of the shoe is embroidered with Chinese lettering.
(FreshAsFrankie) Nipsey Hussle’s debut studio LP has been done since April and has seen numerous delays due to label disputes, which have since been sorted out with Nip’s All Money In label partnering with Atlantic Records. With progress being made, the Crenshaw rapper has finally put a release date on Victory Lap. In the meantime, the 32-year-old delivered a gritty “Rap N—as” visual to hold fans over until Feb. 16, which is just in time for NBA All-Star weekend.
The Sergio-directed video takes Nipsey around various city landscapes claiming he’s not like the rest of these emcees until the ending lavishly fades away with his crew on a luxurious boat. Before coming to a close the blacked out screen reads in a script, “In Loving Memory of Stephen ‘Fatts’ Donelson,” who passed away in September at the age of 30. Lauren London makes a cameo in the video, but XXL reported last week that the couple had broken up.
Hussle took to Instagram with a heartfelt thank you letter penned to his day one supporters saying, “You’ve come a long way with us on this journey. Through our ups and downs, you’ve stayed dedicated to us, our brand, and our vision. I want to say thank you. Without your belief, we would not have gone this far.”
