Lil Wayne Released From Hospital. Will Need 2 Weeks To Recover From Seizures
(FreshAsFrankie) I am happy to report that Lil Wayne has been released from Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, where he was treated for multiple seizures suffered on Sunday, September 3.

According to TMZ, Wayne has been ordered to take it easy from touring for at least two weeks. He’ll perform next on September 23.

Despite rumors to the contrary, Wayne’s team insists his seizures were the result of a grueling schedule, combined with a lack of sleep … and had nothing to do with sipping lean.

The rapper reportedly is an epileptic.

Omelly Ignores Doctor’s Orders, Walks Around Hospital 2 Days After Shooting

Omelly Ignores Doctor's Orders, Walks Around Hospital 2 Days After Shooting
(FreshAsFrankie) Dreamchaser’s rapper Omelly was walking around the hospital while recovering from gun shot wounds in a new video.

Omelly’s stroll through the hospital made it to social media. “They want me to lay in the bed all day. I ain’t gonna lay in no bed,” said Omelly in the clip. He even joked about going to a club while chewing on what looked like a tortilla chip. The rapper was shot over the holiday weekend in North Camden, New Jersey. Shortly after the initial reports hit, Omelly took to social media to let everyone know that he was alright. “Took it and smiled thanks to everyone for the support,” Omelly wrote on his Instagram. Omelly is a Dreamchaser’s member who made an appearance alongside Meek Mill on the “OOOUUU Freestyle” where they both retaliated against The Game. He has shot on the same weekend that Meek appeared at Jay-Z’s Made in America Festival. Meek has yet to comment on the matter, but it seems like Omelly is making a speedy recovery based on the video. Despite being able to walk around freely, the rapper still said he’s feeling some pain after being shot. “I need something for this pain too,” said Omelly to a nurse in the clip. “Imma walk it off.”

Michael Bennett on Equality: American History Shows Black Lives Don’t Matter

Michael Bennett on Equality: American History Shows Black Lives Don't Matter
(FreshAsFrankie) Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett recently spoke with ESPN about his appreciation for the Black Lives Matter movement.

Bennett discussed the movement’s impact on him personally and why he feels it’s so important while examining his Black Lives Matter hat. “This hat means a lot to me,” said Bennet. “You talk about Philando Castille, you talk about Tamir Rice, Trayvon Martin, and Michael Brown. This hat says it all. Through American history, we’ve been shown that black lives don’t matter. We were slaves for 400 years. We didn’t have rights until 1960. The last hanging in America was [in the 1960s].” Bennett feels like blacks are not given the same opportunities as other races and said it’s a scary time when blacks are being killed and the person who murdered them is not convicted of the crime. “It just shows you that, as much as we think times have changed, times haven’t really changed,” he continued. “So we have to keep reminding you that black lives matter. Because every day when we wake up, we’re reminded that black lives don’t matter.” Bennett has spoken about social justice in the past on outlets like The Breakfast Club.

The clip comes just after the star football player was wrongfully profiled by police who he alleges threatened his life.

Richard Sherman on Bennett Arrest: Money nor Fame Stops Racial Profiling

Richard Sherman on Bennett Arrest: Money nor Fame Stops Racial Profiling
(FreshAsFrankie) Several members of the Seattle Seahawks spoke on the brutal August arrest of teammate Michael Bennett, after he addressed the matter himself, during the team’s post-practice press conference on Wednesday, September 7.

Head coach Pete Carroll touched on how common such social issues as police brutality are discussed in the Seahawks locker room, and defensive end Cliff Avril spared a few words that backed his teammate, but it was the famously vocal Richard Sherman who went in depth about the all-around social implications of the incident.

“I’ve been hemmed up, countless times when I was younger. You live in the inner city, that’s just how it goes. Police are trying to patrol the city, keep the city safe. So, you know … A black between the sizes of 6-4 and 5-3, you know? And they are going to get you,” the 29-year-old Compton native said while posing that he, like many around the league, can personally identify with what happened to Bennett.

While Sherman and Bennett have on occasion differed on their positions as they concern politics, they are known to be two of the more socially conscious athletes in the sport and have both been open about their dissent in the past. Bennett for example, is an active proponent of Black Lives Matter, while Sherman has gone on record to say that he won’t pledge his unequivocal support for the group’s actions because he hasn’t gotten a good sense of what their end goal is. But both men were very supportive of Colin Kaepernick’s protest and have played pivotal roles in converting the Seattle locker room into the most woke in the league.

Last year the Seattle Seahawks decided they’d demonstrate in solidarity with Kaepernick, but that they’d do it as a team, and would compromise by standing, but linking arms during the playing of the National Anthem. This year, they’ve observed as Bennett has taken his own protest to a next phase, by sitting out the ceremony altogether. While Sherman can see such a move causing a stir among Seahawks fans, he spoke of that being more so an issue concerning society and how it approaches life and death issues concerning the Black community, then it is a matter that any one player bears the onus of confronting.

“Mike is sitting, protesting and doing everything he can to combat the exact thing that he experienced,” Sherman said. “People are so worried about him sitting down during the national anthem that they completely miss that message at times. They want to be more angry at the action than the message. That’s an unfortunate part of the world that we live in.”

Trump: I’ll Revisit DACA if Congress Doesn’t Make Decision in 6 Months

Trump: I'll Revisit DACA if Congress Doesn't Make Decision in 6 Months
(FreshAsFrankie) The Trump administration recently announced that it would be ending DACA—the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program created to give temporary protections from deportation for almost 800,000 undocumented immigrants. Now, after cutting DACA, Trump has tweeted that the ball is in Congress’ court in terms of legalizing the temporary protection. He tweeted, “Congress now has 6 months to legalize DACA (something the Obama Administration was unable to do). If they can’t, I will revisit this issue!”

Many have chimed in on Trump’s decision to end DACA, including Barack Obama. The former POTUS said, “Let’s be clear: The action taken today isn’t required legally. It’s a political decision and a moral question. Whatever concerns or complaints Americans may have about immigration in general, we shouldn’t threaten the future of this group of young people who are here through no fault of their own, who pose no threat, who are not taking away anything from the rest of us.”

If Congress or the Trump administration does not take action to legalize DACA, almost 300,000 people could lose their immigration status in 2018. After that, over 320,000 people would be stripped of their status starting in January 2019.

Congress Approves $7.85 Billion Hurricane Harvey Relief Package

Congress Approves $7.85 Billion Hurricane Harvey Relief Package
(FreshAsFrankie) While Hurricane Irma is on the horizon for Florida and tropical islands, the government is still putting time into relief efforts for Hurricane Harvey. The hurricane hit Houston, Texas and left many for dead, as well as homeless. Since then, Congress has approved $7.85 billion relief package for those affected by Hurricane Harvey.

According to reports, Congress voted 419 to 3 in favor of approving a funding package with relief aid for Harvey. The breakdown for the package includes $7.4 billion for FEMA response to the situation and $450 million towards the Small Business Administration.

NPR noted that the bill is going to the Senate, where Majority Leader McConnell noted that a debt-ceiling increase will be attached, and the increase was asked for by Donald Trump. The administration says that the increase is necessary to get funding to send to the Gulf Coast, along with the money that may be needed for future Harvey relief efforts, along with efforts for Hurricane Irma.
