(FreshAsFrankie) Retail locations around the country have taken quite a few steps to mitigate the Black Friday chaos that has plagued shopping centers in years past, including implementing ticket systems and having people queue in organized lines before entering the store. It seems inevitable, however, that altercations will break out between customers as folks scramble to grab the last hot deals.
One such incident occurred outside a Missouri mall when a teen was shot in the parking lot of a center in the town of Columbia late Thursday night, though it appears the shooting was not over merchandise.
According to police, two men were sitting inside a car when one of them accidentally discharged his gun while trying to holster the weapon. The two men reportedly know each other, reports local news outlet KMIZ.
The unidentified 19-year-old received “life-threatening injuries” during the shooting outside of the Columbia Mall, which was open until midnight on Thanksgiving.
Police have yet to make any arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Columbia wasn’t the only town to see Black Friday violence; a shopping center in Alabama was shut down early after a brawl erupted at the Riverchase Galleria outside Birmingham.
