LiAngelo Ball had a 24-hour period that he won’t soon forget on Tuesday, March 27. The soft-spoken middle child of the Ball brothers trio followed up on the announcement of signups for his father’s Junior Basketball Association by declaring for the NBA draft. Then he went out on the court and dropped a jaw-dropping 72 points in a Big Baller Brand Challenge game between his Vytautas squad and the Chinese Guangdong Southern Tigers youth team.
LiAngelo grabbed 11 rebounds to go with his enormous point total, which tied the previous all-time mark he set for himself in a senior year game with Chino Hills High School during the 2016-17 season. The effort helped lift Vytautas to a 159-115 win and got them trending upward as they prepare for an April 2 matchup in London. But there is no doubting that LiAngelo is looking past the contest with full confidence that he’ll perform and with an intention to do so impressively so as to leave an impression with scouts from around the National Basketball League who may be willing to take a chance on the 6-ft-5-inch shooting guard.
LaMelo did his own bit of damage in the exhibition, putting up 36 points under the direction of his father, LaVar.
