According to the Louisiana Attorney General, no charges will be filed against the two Baton Rouge police officers who shot Alton Sterling in 2016.
Via a press conference, AG Jeff Landry said “This decision was not taken lightly. We came to this conclusion after countless hours of reviewing the evidence.” He also went on to say the officers’ actions were “well-found and reasonable.”
This comes almost a year after the Department of Justice noted that they would not be charging the officers for the death of Alton Sterling. Prosecutors felt there wasn’t enough evidence to bring civil rights charges against Howie Lake II and Blane Salamoni, the officers who shot Sterling.
